Mahmoud Salam, PhD, MSN, RN

Dr. Mahmoud Salam joined LAU in September 2023 as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the Alice Ramez Chaghoury School of Nursing. Dr. Salam has a critical care clinical experience, licensed both in Lebanon and USA. He has extensive training in case management at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He was a senior research coordinator at a leading medical research center abroad.

Research Interests and Projects

Dr. Salam has a strong research interest in the fields of Nursing, Public health, Infection control and Occupational safety.

Dr. Salam has contributed to various health related research projects in the past years. He was actively involved in a National Biobanking Project in 2010. Since 2013, he worked with other researchers on studies related to the quality of life among diabetics, nurses’ perception towards accreditation, peripheral intravenous catheter complications, antibiotic prescription errors, accidental ingestion of poisons, attitude of cancer patients towards healthcare management, adverse events post blood donations, perceived risks associated with blood transfusion, addiction to smartphone usage, thrombocytopenia in neonates, allergies, early menarche, obesity and eating disorders, forensic odontology, mental illness, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, BPA, moral distress among nurses, perceptions towards MERS-CoV, oral parafunctional habits, delirium post-op, workplace bullying, low back pain, late cancer presentation, attitudes towards vaccines and few editorials. Dr. Salam acted as a peer reviewer on some journals such as Clinical Toxicology, Pediatrics, Plos One, International Journal of Nursing and Health Care Research, International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health and others.

Dr. Salam participated in many research events where he presented his work and got awarded. Two of his research projects received grants from the research boards at AUB and PIRF at LAU. Dr. Salam’s work is heavily cited (>2400 times) with an h-index-26 and i10-index 37.
