Clinical Affiliates

The Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing established affiliation agreements with a variety of healthcare settings and organizations that deliver health and community services. Primary among these are the Lebanese American University Medical Center - Rizk Hospital and the Lebanese American University Medical Center - St. John’s Hospital.

Lebanese American University Medical Center - Rizk Hospital

LAU Medical Center-RH functions as the main hub for clinical education in hospital-based nursing, situated in the heart of Beirut with a four-building, 169-bed medical campus. Acquired by LAU on June 30, 2009.

The medical center currently provides a diverse range of services, encompassing:

These services are delivered through various units, including general medical, surgical, and pediatric units, as well as labor and delivery, Nursery, Pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, general, coronary care, and cardiac surgery intensive care units, operating rooms, and outpatient facilities for hemodialysis, one-day surgery, chemotherapy, and diagnostic procedures (such endoscopy, cath. Lab, interventional radiology).

Undergoing restructuring and expansion, LAU Medical Center-RH has evolved into a comprehensive university hospital with associated ambulatory clinics, serving as the primary site for clinical teaching, research, and practice for LAU’s schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. The expansion initiatives involved establishing several centers of specialized care.

The Department of Nursing at LAUMC-RH employs around 400 nursing staff, including 212 professional registered nurses, Midwives, respiratory therapists, with lead nurses, coordinators, supervisors, and head nurses overseeing operational responsibilities for the clinical units. The department actively supports a staff-development program for both registered and practical nurses.

Nurses play a crucial role in the hospital’s Quality, medical record, and Infection Control departments, case management, where these positions are mostly filled by registered nurses.

Lebanese American University Medical Center – St. John’s Hospital

LAU Medical Center-SJH is a hospital of 50-bed medical campus located in Jounieh. It offers its patients and the community a wide range of medical, surgical and diagnostic healthcare services., and the hospital aspires to have excellence in its operations.

Community Healthcare Sites

The role of nurses in the community is vital. Community health nurses work under the auspices of a variety of healthcare organizations and agencies. They provide care across the continuum, from health promotion and disease prevention to clinical treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care. Community health nurses work holistically by including biomedical, psychosocial, behavioral, and socio-environmental perspectives.

LAU’s nursing students will have the opportunity to learn in community settings throughout Lebanon as the school develops affiliated with various community organizations and NGOs.
