Few university faculty have the opportunity to participate in the development of a new school. At the Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing, you would play an instrumental role in developing pioneering nursing-education programs and creating a vibrant intellectual environment.
Develop innovative programs
Our first class of B.S.N. students began its studies in fall 2010. Our enrollment has grown to approximately 100 students and already 54 have graduated. Most of the graduates work at leading hospitals in Lebanon, and several are already enrolled in graduate studies. Our 2015-2020 Strategic Plan includes academic goals such as launching our innovative Step Up program (TS to BSN Bridge Program), which will enable practicing nurses with the TS diploma to earn a B.S.N. We are also in the early phases of developing a master’s program in nursing. The B.S.N. program at LAU is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accredittation).
Interprofessional Education (IPE)
ARCSON offers faculty an exciting opportunity to partner with other health sciences faculty to deliver Interprofessional Education (IPE) and conduct interdisciplinary research. The IPE program prepares LAU’s health science graduates to competently and confidently work as members of interdisciplinary health care teams. The university’s School of Pharmacy is U.S.-accredited, and our School of Medicine, has developed an innovative problem-oriented curriculum. Faculty from the three health sciences schools have joined with nutrition and social work faculty from the School of Arts and Sciences to develop our IPE program. Collaboration around IPE lays the foundation for joint teaching, research and service projects. IPE is a hallmark experience for LAU’s health professions students and faculty alike.
The School of Nursing is located in the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury Health Sciences Center on LAU’s Byblos campus. The building houses LAU’s schools of nursing, medicine, and pharmacy. State-of-the-art learning areas, “smart” classrooms, and research laboratories will enable faculty to guide student learning using contemporary educational strategies and equipment. the location of health faculties in one building, with well-appointed research laboratories and work areas supports faculty to conduct research addressing critical health care questions. The Chagoury Building houses our Clinical Simulation Center (CSC), also shared by the three schools. The CSC has both inpatient and outpatient zones, with a broad array of low, medium and high fidelity simulators. It is a AHA-certified as a BLS and ACLS training center. Nursing students have experiences in the CSC that range from learning basic skills to developing confidence and critical thinking through high fidelity simulation.
The School of Nursing also has a strong partnership with the Department of Nursing at the Lebanese American University Medical Center - Rizk Hospital, LAU’s academic medical center. Nurses at LAUMC-RH assist the faculty in recruiting, educating and mentoring our students. Many of our students complete their cooperative experiences at LAUMC-RH and receive scholarship support from the hospital and go on to work at the medical center after graduation. Our partnership lays the groundwork for collaborative research, continuing education, and evidence-based practice activities.the School has affiliation agreements with many other area hospitals and community agencies. A growing university
LAU is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. It is accredited through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The faculty and student body reflect the diversity of the Lebanese population and include many international members. The University offers a strong liberal arts curriculum and over 60 majors in its seven schools.
